In this fast pace modern society, We solemnly are encouraged to take a break. No matter your situation freelance job or run in the rat race, The concept of a break is almost foreign, To that I say… Do it more often. Many problems in modern society are caused by not taking time to rest. You can pursue your dreams forever but you have to do maintenance to ensure you can keep up. Although I have said that, A better question would be what even is a break? Watching a video?, a nap?; Figuring out what to do can be just as hard as doing it. Let’s try to figure out what a break is.
A break’s definition is a gap in an otherwise active electrical circuit. This definition best describes the idea I am looking at. We tend to just do and allow our busy mind to carry us every which way. As you can see we have a monkey. Now this has garnered many different reactions, But it’s main purpose is to give you a break. Breaks are great things, Without them many cars would crash, Many elevators would fall, plenty of devices would stop working. We wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference between night and day. Everything needs a rest period regardless of what it is.
The reason for their greatness is a little thing called growth. In order for any growth a rest period is needed. During everyday this also rings true. A monkey is born form his mother’s womb then given constant attention, Eventually this period ends, A baby monkey filled with energy springs into action ready to take on the day. But he does too much too fast: Swinging from one tree to the next with out stopping, Climbing and eating with no regards. Midday comes around….
..the Monkey has crashed. Now compare yourself to that monkey, How many times have you lost all energy throughout the day? How many times have you crashed ruining the rest of your day? For most this is many, but why continue this? We can all stay active, healthy and productive in our day by adding just one period of rest. Rest has been scientifically, philosophically, and realistically proven to be a necessity to life.
In this modern Age how should one go about taking a break? Well lets find out. The art of taking a break requires you to know one thing. Awareness. Being aware it what allows you to break, If you are aware when your tired you know to stop. It requires you to do a task that allows a sense of presence. Taking a walk in nature, Doing yoga, or reading a book. Anything can allow rest as long as it promotes awareness.
Now that you know do what you will. I’ll be hear on my porch relaxing until my next vision calls me. I wish you the best on your journey, As that is what life is and ought to be. A journey of the soul on the planet Earth.
